Thread: Compiz fails, no unity, Blank desktop after 13.04 update

hi!,
on second day raring ringtail booted , ran updates, think included compiz, , reboot requested.

rebooted normal gui desktop chosen background, top panel , greeter login window. logging in ubuntu gave blank screen no panel or launcher; after pause window announced network connected.

'ctrl+alt+t' gave terminal , echo $desktop_session gave: "ubuntu".

in course of many reboots had several 'system failures' compiz , unity-greeter, amongst others.
code:
setsid unity # did nothing sudo apt-get install -f # did nothing dpkg-reconfigure -a # gave interactive display
ending list of appeared compiz failures or errors.

rebooting 'recovery>resume normal boot' gave same result, did 'ctrl+alt+f1 startx', or ' lightdm stop' , 'restart'.

right clicking on desktop gave access additional drivers window had no buttons, or menus, nor size function, not tell version which, , have not installed video drivers running nouveau on gt 520 nvidia card.
code:
apt-cache policy unity # returns:"installed: 7.0.0daily13.04.15..." not due reported bug.
in notes have command reset compiz, not complete:
code:
dconf reset -f /org/compiz/ # edited typo 'reset omitted here, not in original
this got from:
http://www.webupd8.org/2012/10/how-t...in-ubuntu.html
requires path, either key or dir, edit: presumably error because /org/compiz/ not exist ??

please tell me 'path' add? have separate /home partition.

or else try?

after rebooting , logging in gnome classic(no effects) normal desktop resulted, not video driver problem.edit: see later post.

chao!, bogan.
