EXIF data corrupt

when modify picture adobe photoshop elements 10 (but interestingly not always) happens, afterwards exif data lost. in picasa find remaining block of 5 values. photo me tells me, "the exif data header of chosen file invalid", smart tv not able view picture more. microsoft phot gallery refuses open file.

when open corrupt file cewe foto viewer , restore afterwards, values again. unfortunately size of file gets trasticly reduced.

since not general problem, don't know solution. it's not program settings, since haven't changed there.

my camera pentax k5, don't think there problem, because original pictures ok.

i may wrong appears adobe products strip out camera maker notes data exif metadata.

since exiftool , several other applications can read , write , exif maker note area, can assume adobe not care preserving information.  i've been researching topic past few days , appears adobe has known issue several years has never fixed it.  since have not fixed it, can assume don't feel important enough users.  folks keep original files , not let applications ever edit them in way, including metadata.   wouldn't problem if didn't have 10's of thousands of images deal with.  originals, edited ones, backups, etc....   starts chew space pretty fast keeping originals protected updates way ensure maker notes stay in tact.  of course makes inconvenient @ maker note of particular photo.  camera specific information can used photographer learn how he/she can reproduce photo characteristic may like.  once again exiftool , several other software vendors have figured out how read/write metadata without destroying it.
