Zoom & Pan

i have new project @ work want improve interactivity on. let's have country map icon-buttons representing cities.

 

click on button, , zoom in , pan across city, close up.  (not unlike searching on google maps.)  talkbox of information appears, including x close button, return zoomed out , centered state or position. 

 

how can this?

 

i imagined using different mc's, placed on frames across timeline. click on button, go frame _ , play mc.  mc include zoom in , pan (transform scale , position).

 

but if use flash "math" zoom directly city, not mc involved?  how script that?

i think easier , more satisfactory use code instead of timeline frames.  each city child movieclip (transparent works, too) of main map parent.

 

when want zoom and/or pan city, determine how x , y need change center on-stage.  apply transform parent map.
